you and me in a car in sydney
I just came across these photos from russell davies, many of which were taken from inside a car driving through Australia. cool, eh? it makes me happy to see I'm not the only one that tilts my camera a bit.
photos from my own trip south (not so far as Australia) will be posted as soon as I get around to it.

132nd and 256th
this picture is not very pretty. i took it because that is a green ford taurus up there. and nothing serves to remind me of bygone infatuations so well as automobiles that match.the redheaded owner of the ford taurus was less of an infatuation and more of an insanity--but close enough.
he doesn't drive that car anymore. which is just as well. change is good. change is vital...
i wonder if my little blue honda (or any of her twins) will ever remind anyone out there of a bygone infatuation. that would be interesting to know.
there was also a maroon pontiac grand am. and a goldish nissan. such is my memory, hung up on certain types of cars probably a little bit more so than the male persons who once drove said vehicles.

16th street, astoria
Astoria, Oregon, was the place they filmed that epitome of 80s movies, The Goonies. i'm not a huge fan of the show, but it does sort of define the culture of the era I grew up in. so out of a weird nostalgia, i haven't put it on my list of hated films.we drove around Astoria looking for a pizza place my dad had heard rumors about ten years previous. sadly, we didn't find it. we didn't have that many clues to go on.
so we kept driving, crossing this bridge that goes over the mouth of the columbia river. and we got home just after ten and ate fried chicken for dinner instead of pizza.

avenue of the giants, northern california
we saw bigger redwood trees, later that night. we pulled over at a small brown sign that said simply:Big Tree --->
and we hiked 0.1 miles in the moonlight to the clearing where it stood, fenced off with a wooden fence. big trees. not all that red on the outside, especially not at night, but they are big and beautiful and straight and dark.
